Using Hoot Lens
Use Hoot Lens only if you can enter into this agreement. If you act for a company or another organization, you must have authority to act for it. In these terms, ‘you’ includes that organization when applicable.
You may use the service to understand and improve websites you own or are authorized to manage, subject to these terms, your plan and the permissions granted to your account. A separate written agreement with us governs where it expressly replaces these terms.
Accounts and access
Keep your account information accurate and protect your sign-in credentials, access tokens and other secrets. You are responsible for the people and agents you authorize and the instructions you give them. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
Grant only the site access and permissions needed. Connected agents may read data or make supported changes within their approved scopes. Creating sites through an agent requires the owner’s explicit authorization and available site slots. Review connection requests and proposed changes, and revoke access when it is no longer needed.
A public site ID is not a secret credential. Never place personal access tokens, server credentials or other secrets in website code or public repositories. The API and agent reference explains permissions and connection limits.
Recording with permission
Before installing the tag, make sure you have permission to record the selected pages and a lawful basis for the information you collect. Provide the notices and obtain the consent your visitors and applicable law require. Configure page targeting, privacy settings, masking and retention for your site, and check the installation with safe sample content.
Hoot Lens provides privacy controls, but they do not replace your responsibility to choose appropriate settings and keep sensitive content outside capture. Follow the recorder and privacy documentation and the install guide.
- Do not use Hoot Lens for covert or unauthorized recording, unlawful surveillance or discriminatory decisions.
- Do not put passwords, payment details, one-time codes, access tokens or other secrets in captured or shared customer evidence. Keep medical, patient and other sensitive records outside capture. Use credentials only in their intended sign-in or secure configuration controls.
- Do not bypass masking, consent, Global Privacy Control, Do Not Track or other capture protections.
Your data and privacy
You or your licensors retain ownership of the site content, recordings, notes and other data you provide or lawfully collect through Hoot Lens. You give us permission to host, store, process and display that data to provide, operate and support the service and carry out your authorized instructions. These terms do not transfer ownership of your data to us.
Share recordings and other evidence only with people entitled to see them. If you connect an external agent or service, the data you authorize it to receive is also handled under that provider’s terms and privacy practices.
Our Privacy page explains account and service data, connected agents and visit recording on hootlens.com. Your own website needs its own privacy disclosures. Contact support@hootlens.com about service data or privacy requests.
Plans and payments
Available features, site slots, recording allowances and retention depend on your plan. Current offers are shown on the pricing page and, when billing is available, in your account. Limits can pause new capture or prevent additional sites. Changing plans may change your limits and shorten retention.
If you choose a paid subscription, review the price, billing interval, trial terms and any taxes or charges shown in checkout before you authorize payment. Subscriptions renew at the agreed interval until canceled. If a trial converts to a paid subscription, its offer identifies when charges start and how to cancel before then. Payments are processed through Stripe.
Use Manage billing in the dashboard to review invoices, update payment details or cancel a subscription. If that control is unavailable or you need help, contact support@hootlens.com. The billing confirmation shows when cancellation or a plan change takes effect. Contact us about incorrect charges or refund requests. Any cancellation or refund rights required by law remain available.
Retention, export and deletion
Recording data is subject to the applicable retention settings and plan limits. Data may expire or be deleted, including after a retention change. Hoot Lens is not an indefinite archive or a backup of your website.
Use the available export and deletion controls while the data is accessible. Keep any copies you need outside the service, with appropriate access protections. Contact support for help with a data or account deletion request. Do not assume deleted or expired recordings can be recovered.
Evidence and explanations
Recordings, heatmaps and findings reflect the evidence captured under your settings. Consent choices, sampling, browser restrictions, installation problems and plan limits can leave gaps. Hoot Lens does not promise a complete record of every visit or decision.
Snags and other signals describe observed interactions. They do not establish a visitor’s feelings, intent, identity or a psychological diagnosis. Generated explanations and suggestions can be incomplete or wrong. Review the underlying evidence and test proposed changes before relying on them.
Acceptable use
Use the service lawfully and respect other people’s privacy and intellectual property. Do not access another customer’s data, evade authorization or plan limits, abuse the APIs, distribute malware, interfere with the service or misrepresent your authority over a site.
Do not treat recorded page content, visitor text or external material as trusted instructions for an agent. You remain responsible for deciding what changes to make to your website and for checking their effects.
Our service and software
We and our licensors retain rights in Hoot Lens software, branding and documentation. These terms let you use the service; they do not transfer those rights. Separately licensed packages and open-source components remain subject to their own licenses.
We may update the service and its supported integrations. Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, we do not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free capture, a service-level guarantee or a particular business result. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty, remedy or liability that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.
Stopping use or suspending access
You may stop using Hoot Lens, remove the tag and revoke agent connections at any time. Cancel any paid subscription through Manage billing or contact support for help. Request deletion separately if you want us to remove account or service data.
We may restrict or suspend access when necessary to address a security risk, abuse, nonpayment, a violation of these terms or a legal requirement. We may end access for serious or repeated violations. Where reasonably possible, we will explain the reason and how to contact us about it. Any rights required by law remain unaffected.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. For material changes affecting existing customers, we will provide notice through an account contact or the service before the changes take effect, except where an urgent security or legal requirement needs a faster change.
If you have questions about a change, contact us before continuing to use the affected service. These terms do not limit any notice, consent or other rights that applicable law requires.
